THE THING THAT MAY BE THE MOST IMPORTANT IS THE MEETING TODAY AFTER SCHOOL FOR THE NM STATE THESPIAN CONFERENCE. SERIOUSLY YOUR MONEY IS DUE ON FRIDAY (THE 13TH) AND YOU NEED ALL OF THIS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND PERMISSION SLIPS AND REGISTRATION AND STUFF LIKE THAT SO PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE COME.
In un-capitalized text: the New Mexico State Thespian Conference is taking place on January 17th and 18th, 2014 at the Albuquerque Academy. Incredibly, stupidly-important information is going to be given today after school in A-1. "Important information" reads as follows: how much you need to pay ($50), when you need to pay it (Friday, Dec. 13th), and many other things. PLEASE come to this meeting if you're interested in coming with us to State this year! Friday, Dec. 13th is also the night of our Holiday Party!!!!! WOOOOOOOOH! It's going to be at Aj's place (ask him via Facebook or SMS for his address) and it starts at 6:00pm. It'll probably also be posted on the chalk board in the classroom) this year. Bring good treats such as actual food (read: main dishes and dinner items) and cute holiday-themed goodies. Aj requests that you PLEASE carpool!!! Seriously, though because there isn't that much parking, also it is better for the environment. Another possibility that falls under carpooling is get someone's parent or older sibling to drop you and a few others off. Either way, try as hard as possible to carpool!! Under that same umbrella, we will be doing a voluntary White Elephant gift exchange! For you kiddies who don't know what that is, allow me to explain. A White Elephant is when you buy a low-priced gift (or gifts) and take it to this get-together of ours. The limit for gifts is $5! People who bring gifts will put them in a pile and be given a number. Now, only those who buy a gift will get a gift. The number signifies the order. Whomever is #1 will pick a gift from the pile (wrap your gifts because it will make this much more fun!) and unwrap the gift. #2 will then have the ability to steal #1's gift or choose a gift from the pile. This goes on until all of the gifts are unwrapped. Once you unwrap a gift, you can't put it back. Also, a gift may only be stolen twice! You can steal any of the opened gifts (unless it's been stolen twice.) Oh, and you can either pick a gift from the pile or steal a gift if a gift is stolen from you. Again, the White Elephant gift exchange is completely voluntary, so if you don't have the money, or don't want to participate for any reason, it's completely okay. Just keep in mind that if you bring a gift, you get a gift and remember the $5 limit. Another INCREDIBLY important thing that is going on THIS WEEK is our group picture!!! They will occur on December 12th (Thursday) at 9am. I understand that this is during a class period, but you can go to Ms. Hall for a pass. Meet in the gym at 9am for these lovely imprints of our faces to be made. There is no extra cost for taking this picture and it will go into the yearbook! PLEASE IF YOU HAVE A THESPIAN T-SHIRT IT IS HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU WEAR IT ON THURSDAY SO WE CAN ALL LOOK NICE. IT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE TO BE A SHIRT FROM THIS YEAR, IT CAN BE A THESPIAN SHIRT FROM ANY YEAR EVER. Aaaaaaaallllssssoooooo on that similar note, Thursday, December 12th is also the deadline for paying your dues aaaaannndd updating your points for this semester. Again, as if we haven't told you many times already, dues are paid in G-5 whenever they're open. If you are not a Thespian, you must pay $20 (codeword: perspective thespian) and this will get you a points sheet and entry into the National Thespian Honors Society. If you are already a Thespian, you just have to pay $10 (codeword: returning thespian). Now let me explain a thing: if you haven't paid your dues, DECEMBER 12TH IS YOUR ABSOLUTE LAST TIME TO PAY DUES EVER. Not really, but if you're a senior, this is your last chance to enter into the legion of official Thespians. And even if you're an underclassmen, starting as early as possible with your point sheet is optimal. Also, there are perks to being a Thespian. Again: after December 12th, 2014, you will NOT be able to pay your dues for the 2013-2014 school year. Coming off of that, December 12th is also your last day to update your points for this semester. We need to give our president enough time before break to count up our points. Points will get you many cool things, such as a Thespian card, which can get you discounts into shows, a letter, bars, and other hip accessories. This Thursday (December 12th) is our last Thespian meeting of the semester. You'll learn important information, as always, and we'll make sure to play games this week! We learned some fancy new improv games in Denver, so coming to this meeting will be worth-while. Also, why not come anyway? There is no rehearsal, and we haven't had a meeting in 5ever. Please come to this meeting and hang out with us and have a great time. Tell all your friends about the meeting, because we're cool, y'know? Finally, all of you lovelies who went to the Colorado State Thespian Conference in Denver, I know many of you took pictures. Send all of them to Shelby at [email protected] so that they can be included in the slideshow at the end of the year. You can also post them on Facebook to show the world the beauty of the LCHS Thespians. Facebookers: tell your non-Facebook Thespians about this not-even-lying important news post! Those who aren't on Facebook need to know all of this information, too! Have a good week, burritos. Hey everyone!! We have another fundraiser for the La Cueva High School Thespians that starts TOMORROW, Tuesday November 19. It will run from November 19 through November 26 and we'll be getting 25% of the proceeds. It is very important that you go to the shop on Wyoming, that is the only place that will be accepting these flyers. That's an entire week of fundraising that helps us! Please please participate and tell everyone about it! At the bottom of this post there will be an image that will count as the coupon in order for us to get money back from U-Swirl! Please participate, it's a great way to have fun with your friends AND help out this fantastic club. You can either print out the flyer or show it to the cashier on a device such as a smart phone or a tablet. Print it and send it to your family members, send it as an email to your friends. Get as many people as you can to participate! There will be a post about it on Facebook so if you have liked the page (facebook.com/lchsthespians) you can share that post with all of your friends!
Hey guys! This is short notice, but we are having a Denver meeting after school on Tuesday, the 19th for like 15 minutes. If you're going to Denver, you NEED to attend this meeting, very important information will be shared at this meeting! It's on the board in the classroom. If you can't make the meeting, talk to Ms. Hall and get the info that you need!
Also there is a Thespian meeting on Thursday, November 21st so plan on being there!!! It's going to be our second-to-last meeting of this semester!!! Dues are also another important thing you need to consider. The deadline to pay your dues is December 12th. You absolutely cannot pay dues after that. What are dues? $20 if you are a wannabe and $10 for returning members. Every year once you pay your dues, you are able to get Thespian points from participating in theater activities. Points get you a membership card, letters, bars, and honor chords. You will not be able to pay your dues after December 12th. First Rehearsal Friday 11/15. If you cannot make it to rehearsal you must speak to Ms. Hall or you will be re-cast.

To audition, you need to have a prepared solo (or for the chorus, that piece) to sing. Keep in mind that this MUST be the piece specifically chosen for that part. It's a bit late, but the sheet music for those parts are posted in front of the choir room. Otherwise, ask someone who has the sheet music or who was at the recommended workshop.
Tech applications will happen this week at the earliest so keep your eyes out for an announcement that will be posted on the door and on the chalkboard. Enjoy the three-day weekend. (Before I get into NOLV, those interested in going on the Denver trip, we will be having a trip meeting on Thursday after school!!!)
Hey all in NOLV!!! This is the order of NOLV for this year, it is also posted on Facebook and on the chalkboard in the classroom. We'll also have it posted backstage. Make absolute sure that you get your props, costumes, set, and other changes in line TOMORROW. If you do not provide what Ms. Hall asked of you, your number will be cut. Stay focused and make sure you know that Tech & Dress is Tuesday and Wednesday this week, as well as a maybe last-minute rehearsal on Thursday. Performances are Friday and Saturday at 7pm, call being at 5:30pm on Friday and 5:15pm on Saturday. What we talked about: DUES DUES DUES YOU'LL STOP HEARING US TALK ABOUT IT ONCE YOU PAY YOUR DANG DUES. The pros of paying your dues: You get a point sheet which allows you to document/keep track of the points you earn as a Thespian. Point sheets are for anything having to do with the theater/live performance. Choir concerts, band concerts, orchestra concerts, other shows, musicals. Basically anything you are in or attend that pertains to live theater counts. Points get you letters, they get you a Thespian card (which is used for discounts to shows), you get bars, you don't have to pay $20 every year. Points are a good thing. In order to go to Denver or NM State your dues must be paid. Dues are INCREDIBLY important!!! If you are a returning Thespian you take your $10 to G5 and tell them so. For you wannabes you take your $20 and tell the cashier in G5 that you are a "perspective" thespian. Take the receipt they give you and show it to your Treasurer, Adelina. On the same note as money, T-shirts!! We have the design and we have a producer *audience applause.* We will get our shirts from ScreenImages. I have already emailed them and confirmed that each shirt will be $10. Since we decided to pay up front, there is no need to go to G5! Just take your $10 to either Adelina or Camille and tell them your shirt size. Very nice, very simple. Your deadline for ordering a La Cueva Thespians 2013-2014 club t-shirt is November 1st. Aaaaaaand also on the same note as money: the Denver deposit. Your initial Denver commitment payment is $100 in G5, due by October 31st. Let this be clear: only pay the $100 if you are absolutely positively sure that you'll be attending the Colorado State Thespian Conference in Denver with us December 5, 6, and 7. The deposit is nonrefundable. Onto Denver. It is incredibly fun!! Make note that the trip DOES conflict 100% with the choir trip to Carlsbad. That being said, I encourage as many of you as possible to come. Denver is tons fun. The conference itself has extremely useful workshops that pertain to everything theater (with some film.) There are workshops for dancing, singing, acting, improv acting, film acting, dialects, how to utilize your body in the space of a stage. If you don't act or want some variety, don't worry because there are just as many workshops for tech such as lights, sound, costumes, props, stage managing, directing, and more. At the meeting we did mention that we needed a single parent chaperon, but not to worry because that is being dealt with already. At the Denver Thespian Conference, there aren't only workshops and showcases, there is competition! You can compete in solo acting, duet acting, solo musical theater, and duet musical theater. I also encourage you to compete because the experience is like none other. You are judged by professionals who know what they're talking about and they'll give you incredible critiques. The important thing to know is if you do intend on competing in Denver, Ms. Hall requires that you must have your piece prepared by October 31st. You absolutely must audition your piece with Ms. Hall in order to compete. There is also an additional fee that comes with competing. Go ahead and make an appointment with Ms. Hall to audition your Denver piece! Questions about the Denver trip go to any of the officers or Ms. Hall. nnnnnNNNNNNNOLV! N.O.L.V.: Night of the Living Videos. Also known as probably the most fun show we put on every year. If you don't know what NOLV is for any reason, here you go: it's basically acting out a music video onstage. You don't reproduce a music video, instead, students create and direct their own NOLVs to songs of their choosing. Those in the Drama classes already know about NOLV and have produced NOLVs that were performed in class. Auditions for NOLV are on Friday, October 25th after school. Auditioning NOLVs done in class is a great idea, as well as creating and rehearsing one outside of school. If you want to audition a NOLV that hasn't been rehearsed in class, Facebook and the chalkboard are two ways to get actors and advertise the rehearsal dates. Get on that soon because auditions are in a week! The performances of NOLV are on November 1st and 2nd, so if you don't audition then make plans to support your fellow Thespians! Also on October 25th is the Man/Woman Parties!!! This is one of the best bondings we have all year and I HIGHLY recommend everyone joins, even if it's not for the entire time. The woman half of the party is at Lyndsay Irwin's house (address is on the chalkboard) while the man party is at Jared Price's house (address also on the chalkboard.) In addition to hanging out and having fun, going to the EHS/LCHS football game, and eating delicious food, this bonding is also a sleepover! Fun times are to be had late into the wee hours of the morning. This is a potluck, so the rule is if you want to eat, then bring food. Though don't bring food just for your lonesome self, bring food for 10-15 people so we can all share. Main dishes are preferred so that there aren't 10 litres of soda or 15 boxes of cookies. I suggest you bring fruit/veggie trays, main dishes, and a decent amount of soda and desserts. It's a bonding you don't want to miss!! This is only a very small announcement since it's still far away but: The Music Man auditions!! This year we are producing the musical The Music Man. Auditions are November 12th and 13th. Mark your calendars and prepare yourselves. Seniors: I think we forgot to talk about Senior ads, but next meeting we will 100% talk about location and dates. That's it for now, young children. Pay attention to deadlines and especially what's written on the board. Firstly, congratulations to the cast and crew of Hospital!! We had a fantastic string of performances.
HEY YOU YEAH YOU PAY YOUR THESPIAN DUES. Once you pay your dues, you receive a point sheet, which is an amazing little piece of paper. A point sheet lets you document activities you've done that give you Thespian points, which have a good amount of rewards. To become an official member of the Thespian Society, you have to pay your wannabe Thespian dues of $20 and earn 10 Thespian points. Being a Thespian has its benefits because other than being a part of an Honors Society, you receive a Thespian Card which gets you discounts to plays. Also, once you've become a Thespian, the dues you pay for the rest of your high school years drops to $10. This week, we voted on the design for our '13-'14 La Cueva Thespian T-shirts! By the meeting this week (10-17) I'll get the price for the shirts. It is INCREDIBLY important that if you want to buy a LCHS Thespian shirt, you must be at the meeting on Thursday in order to get important details such as price and the deadline to pay. Those details will be posted on the Facebook page and this website, but it is best if you have any questions to ask them at the meeting on Thursday.\ It's that time of year again to start thinking about Denver!!! For those of you who do not know, every year the La Cueva Thespians go to the Colorado State Thespian Conference. It's a fantastic experience where you can compete in solo/duet acting, solo/duet musical theater, and even Improv Frenzy. To go on the Denver trip, you aren't required to compete if you don't want to, but it's a great experience to get professional critique on your acting. This trip goes from December 5th through December 7th. Depending on how many people end up going, we could either fly or drive, so that will be decided later on. An important note is that the Denver trip does overlap with the Choir trip to Carlsbad. The first Denver payment will be $100 and the deadline for this payment is October 31st. REMEMBER THIS IS THE COMMITMENT PAYMENT AND IT IS NOT REFUNDABLE. As with your Thespian dues, the payment is to be paid in G-5. You will NOT be allowed to go on the Denver trip if you haven't paid your dues. Any questions having to do with the Denver trip can go to Ms. Hall. NOLV is right around the corner! If you are new to the LCHS Thespians, NOLV stands for Night of the Living Videos. It's basically a night where we perform music videos on stage. Those who are in a Drama class with Ms. Hall are already working on their NOLVs, but for those of you who are directing a NOLV outside of class, make sure that you let people know how many actors you need and work out days on which to rehearse. Auditions for NOLV are on October 25th right after school. There will be a rehearsal on Monday, October 28 and Tech/Dress for NOLV is Tuesday-Wednesday, October 29 and 30. Last chance rehearsal is Thursday, October 31st but if we end up using that rehearsal, it would be right after school and will not interfere with your Halloween plans whatsoever. The performance of NOLV are November 1 and 2. But long before Denver, on Friday October 25th we will be hosting our Man and Woman parties!! The party for the men will be held at Jared Price's house while the women's party will be held at Lyndsay Irwin's house, after NOLV auditions, at 6pm. What happens at either of the parties is up to the host, and there will be a sleep-over if enough people are able to. This bonding is a potluck, so everyone is expected to bring desserts, snacks, drinks, or a main dish. It is HIGHLY recommended that people focus on a main dish because we don't want to have 20 litres of soda, tons of bags of chips and one box of pizza. That night, everyone will meet at their respective houses at 6pm and then after hanging out for a while, everyone will meet at the Eldorado/La Cueva football game. I can tell you that this bonding is DEFINITELY worth it to attend. It's one of the best bondings we have all year. Get the the addresses from Jared and Lyndsay. Hope to see you there! I think that's all for now; we ended up talking about A LOT of things at our meeting. If you have any questions, make sure you ask either Ms. Hall, or any of the Thespian Officers. Interns don't stop laughing until she says cease
